Remember- Satyendra Nath Bose

Do you know Satyendra Nath Bose? Now he isn’t connected to Subhash Chandra Bose. My instinct tells me that 9 out of 10 Indians wont be able to identify this true jewel of our country. It’s a pity that our countrymen have so comfortably forgotten so many of ours brethren whom the world still remembers. S.N.Bose happens to be one among them. His greatness and importance of his work can just be understood that most of his work was done along with Einstein.

Born in Kolkata, Bose attended a Presidency college where he was throughout a topper. In initial days, he got the post of lecturer in Physics at University of Calcutta. Then he found the Dacca University (Dhaka…these days… yeah…that part was a part of India those days)

In 1924 Bose wrote a paper deriving Planck’s quantum radiation law without any reference to classical physics. After initial setbacks to his efforts to publish, he sent the article directly to Albert Einstein in Germany. Einstein, recognizing the importance of the paper, translated it into German himself and submitted it on Bose’s behalf to the prestigious Zeitschrift für Physik. As a result of this recognition, Bose was able to leave India for the first time and spent two years in Europe, during which he worked with Louis de Broglie, Marie Curie, and Einstein.

It is said that Bose had taken Albert Einstein as his Guru. After working on the theory proposed by Bose, Einstein extended it to atoms also. And finally they were able to propose a theory for the specific properties of objects at temperature close to Absolute Zero. This was known as Bose Einstein Condensate. A Bose Einstein Condensate is a dense collection of Bosons. Bosons are named after S.N. Bose only. The physics fraternity has made the name of Bose immortal by naming the particle as Bosons. Its time we Indians too do something to honor him.

Even after doing such great work, Bose never received a Nobel prize. His theory of the presence of Bose Einstein Condensate was finally realized as late as 1995 by Eric Cornell and Carl Wieman in 1995 at the University of Colorado at Boulder NIST-JILA lab, using a gas of rubidium atoms. Eric Cornell, Carl Wieman and Wolfgang Ketterle at MIT were awarded the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physics.

An anecdote:

Once the great scientist, Niels Bohr, was delivering a lecture. Bose presided. At one stage the lecturer had some difficulty in explaining a point. He had been writing on the blackboard; he stopped and, turning to Bose, said, “Can Professor Bose help me?” All the while Satyendranath had been sitting with his eyes shut. The audience could not help smiling at Professor Bohr’s words. But to their great surprise, Bose opened his eyes; in an instant he solved the lecturer’s difficulty. Then he sat down and once again closed his eyes

Goa-Indians not welcome

Goa, the name instantly creates an image of fun and enjoyment among everyone. Ahh..the holidays, the sun and the sands. The casual laying under the sun for hours relaxing like a turtle. That’s the outlook Goa has. Needless to say, I too was really excited when a plan was hatched to visit Goa this February. And Goa was as it has promised to be, awesome. But often it happens, all the fun, enjoyment are spoilt due to some ugly event. The same happened with us too.

Let me give some background. Goa is in INDIA. If you are wondering why I wrote that, you will know next. There are 2 events which I will narrate to you.

So, it happened that me and my friend were out on the roads on a 2 wheeler and in hurry had forgotten the helmet. And as it happens by the laws of Murphy, we were stopped by police. We were challaned for 100 rupees and we gave it right away as mistake was ours. Now, just then a foreigner passed us on a 2 wheeler with no helmet on. And he was not even asked to stop, forget about paying a fine. I pointed it out to the policeman who had fined us and his response was “We don’t stop foreigners”. I argued why and he said “Atithi Devo Bhavah”. I responded that that saying was of times when no money was charged from the athithi i.e. the guest. I had gotten really really worked up by this time seeing such blatant racism in my own damn country. I said to him, that when we go to other countries, we are always treated a par below their own citizens and out here they are treated like Gods. I said “mera khoon khaulta hai ye sab dekh kar” (my blood boils when i see such things). The policeman said that his boss had told him not to catch foreigners. Stuck with disbelief, we left.

The second incident was at Majorda beach. Its a really very beautiful beach and the crowd there is minimal which makes for fantastic experience. So, we took a shack and ordered the food and drinks. In between, we went and kept on taking a dip in the sea now and then. The food was really tasty and we ate like kings. At evening, when we were in the water, we heard a nepali looking guy shouting at us to move left. We presumed him to be a life-guard and did do, but his manner of communication did bother us. Now, after an hour or two, when we were about to leave, we again saw that guy and asked him why was he shouting like that. Then he said “Tum log foreigners ke saamne tha, isiliye'(“You guys were near the foreigners, that’s why”). Stunned, we asked him what the hell he meant. He said that we 3 friends were swimming nearby a group of foreigners and one of those foreigners had complained to him to drive us away. I was burning with anger when I heard this and said “tera dimag kharaab hai kya be?”(“Are you crazy or what?”). He even said that we might have touched those foreigners. By now, i was fuming with anger and shouting. We asked the guy that who the fuck is he and does he own the bloody place. Then the guy gets all pumped up and says to me that he will hit me if i keep talking like that. He even threatened that he is a local and can do anything to me. All this nonsense had driven me crazy and I too was ready to exchange blows with him. I couldn’t imagine this was happening in India, my own country. By this time, another guy had come who tried to pacify and our group too wanted to leave. Then we left thereafter.

Both these incidents point out a clear case of racism done to Indians in India. And the shittiest part is that it’s majorly done by Indians themselves. I have always felt that the colonial hangover is still upon a very large portion of populace. They just know to bow when they see a westerner. 250 years of slavery is still deeply rooted and I feel extremely disgusted to see so. Some pathetic apologists will throw the fact that those foreigners spend more so they get this treatment. So, take this, in all the 10 beach shacks I went, we billed the highest. While they ordered a lone sandwich in 3 hours, we had ordered close to 10 dishes during that time. Our bills were not less than 5 times the closest of them. Still, the Indians are treated like second class citizens. I mean, this pains and angers me so much that words fail me to describe it. In some shops also where we went, if foreigners were there, no one bothered to cater to us. It was like we were invisible. Upon searching the net, you can find scores of writings relating to the same issue. Its not an isolated event we had. It’s a continuous and intentional racism. Done by shack owners, waiters, shop owners, hotel staff etc. They don’t even spare fellow Goans too. Otherwise how can a foreigner have the balls to complaint a local guy to clear a part of a public beach stretch of Indians so that he can have it all for himself and others having his skin color. They know that any such disgusting demands of theirs will be catered by the ever so obedient-foreigner-obsessed Indians. On a late night. some restaurants we went said that they could not serve us as they are closing but as soon a white guest arrived, they gladly opened up. As though, we were there to eat for free from those buggers. Now too, when those events crop in mind, disgust is what I feel. I mean, how such things could happen to our own countrymen in their own country. Show me 1 western country where this happens, and I will drop this thing. Why do we Indians have so pathetically low sense of self respect for ourselves and for rest of our countrymen? Also, below is a snap of one of the shacks. Check out all the flags there. Could you see our tri-colour there?

However with all these events, I still say Goa rocks like no other place in India. You will have such fun which you shall remember surely. The places are really beautiful and lovely. My solution to the above mentioned problems will not to say to you to stop going there. I say, go there every year. In big groups. Go there in 1000s and lacs. Let the Indian tourist percentage become a multiple of the foreign tourists and then none would dare to say anything or ignore us. They would have to treat us like equals if not as kings. That’s how things change in this nation.

Freedom of speech

Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privilege to do so, too

By Voltaire

Quoting again from one of my most admired figures from the pages of history, this post of mine will be solely devoted to the most important freedoms of all i.e. freedom of speech.

Human beings evolved from animals as we all know. But sometime 10000s years back, rather than just making sounds, humans learnt to make some sounds which defined a characteristic action or thing. Slowly, along with the evolution of the humans, the evolution of these meaningful sounds also took place and through that, we formed what we call today as the ability to speak. This was one of the major turning points of the complete history of mankind since from then, the wheels of progress became much faster. This was the birth of languages as a very effective and extremely useful tool to pass ideas from one another. And since then we have never looked back. ‘Speech’ is essentially an idea which only resides in the brain of the speaker and he uses the language as a tool and the sound as a carrier to pass it to others.

When written, the words become the carrier of the ideas. But this ability, this extremely beautiful discovery of mankind has been on attack from forces since the time it was discovered. The freedom to from your ideas and then to pass it to others has always been in lock horns with forces which power gets threatened by the transmission of these ideas.

Freedom of speech is the most important of all the freedoms which we can think of. It has to be the first of all the freedoms which one has to ask in a society. Freedom of speech means the ability to speak whatever one wishes to speak without anyone or any government or any organization stopping it. Of course, the basic premise that comes with this freedom is that the individual takes full responsibility of his words and does not indulge in intentional false defamation. If he/she does so, they must be dealt with law in proper manner. But apart from that, no one, not even the richest, the wisest, the most powerful should be able to stop that one individual from speaking his mind. Even if the whole humanity is against that idea, he/she must be allowed to speak it. As Voltaire said

I do not agree to you, but I shall defend to death your right to say it”.

Freedom of speech means to be able to speak clearly against anything which one feels is wrong. If one feels something against religion, he should be free to speak his mind. If someone does not like the working of any politician, he must be free to speak as he/she likes. If one does not like the laws of the land, he/she must be free to speak against it. No one or no entity should or be able to curtail that fundamental right of a citizen to speak his mind.  That’s the only and only way how liberty can be achieved.

This freedom is an enabler of all the other freedoms one wishes to have in a civilized society. Freedom of speech in a way lays out the path for all the other freedoms one desires. Ideas create inventions, ideas start movements, ideas solves problems, ideas explain things, ideas make understanding things easy, ideas show the truth, ideas and the only way one can propagate the ideas is through speech.

That’s why the freedom of speech is so very important for human progress and prosperity. Freedom to live, freedom to stay at or go to places, freedom to religious choice, freedom to earn livelihood are made easier if the freedom of speech is realized.  So, needless to impress upon, because of the enormous potential of this freedom, it is always desired to be curtailed by the people who hold power.

Wherever the power in the form of money or administrative power is threatened by the transmission of certain ideas, they want to restrict it. Because humans whenever are in a state of prosperity and some force may harm it, then they would try to restrict that force even though it’s against democracy or illegal. The desire and the habit to yield power is so engrossing that they can go to any lengths to protect it. This directly leads to the restriction of the freedom of speech.

These restrictions can be of any forms like not being allowed to speak against religion or God and making a law against it. Or not being able to write or speak against a politician. Or putting censor boards to censor movies. Or banning any movies or books. Or not allowing criticism of the government policies. All such acts as we can clearly see are against the principles of democracy.

Many a times, these censorships are not just imposed by the government but by the people or the citizenry itself upon itself. Such a self imposition of censorship by the society is a step taken backwards but nonetheless it happens.

Societies have been known to shun those who go against the wind, who walk away from the herd. Not only such societies start deteriorating but also put a halt on the progress of itself. So, it is very important for a democratic society to flourish is the realization of this fundamental freedom of all, i.e. freedom of speech.

The society should be mature enough to accept the individuality and the freedom of someone to think complete different and against what the society as a whole thinks of. Such an environment is the conducive environment for anything new that can happen.

Galileo thought against the established beliefs in his days and paid the price for it. But all our progress has been achieved in the very same direction in which he thought. In short, the society and the government should serve as watch-dogs of each other for the attainment of freedom of speech for each and every single citizen, no matter how poor, how weak, how foolish, how naïve, how irresponsible he or she may be.

Lastly, as the quote at the starting of this post says, there should be no one who should or could decide what someone else reads, watches, hears. In a crux, every human should have his complete and sole authority upon his/her interests and is able to pursue it.

Again quoting …

“A people which is able to say everything becomes able to do everything.”

Napoleon Bonaparte

Freedom and we

Searching for the word ‘freedom’ in the dictionary offers us a literal meaning of the word. But seldom a person can grasp the real and the actual meaning of the word without turning over the countless pages of history and philosophy. Freedom is not just equal to not being chained or not being locked in a dungeon. It’s also not just equal to not be under foreign rule. It has countless definitions and types. The history is ravaged with innumerable counts of wars and conflicts for this one very word, freedom.

Freedom is my birth right and I shall have it”. We all know this was spoken by Bal Gangadhar Tilak. But 9 out of 10 would conceptualize that the ‘freedom’ being talked here as the independence of India. Which is not wrong, but not completely correct even. Freedom is that very thing an animal craves for when its basic needs of air, water and food has been taken care of. Same with humans too. While air, water and foods are tangible things which can be felt and touched, freedom is an idea. Still, we see that even animals keep it in their top priority just below the basic needs of survival. So, the question we need to ask ourselves, is an idea which is so much important to even the animals can by understood by just a textbook definition. So, what is freedom? I am sorry my literary skills are not that advanced to sum it up in a single sentence. But I produce before you a phrase by French philosopher Voltaire. It does not tell us what it means but tells us how it is. The phrase goes like this

“I do not agree to you, but I shall defend to death your right to say it”

In a sentence the author has so beautifully told us how to be free and also how not to curb freedom of others. Freedom means to stay wherever you want, do whatever you want, say whatever you want but with a basic condition that is without invading freedom of others. It means to be able to be say whatever you want against anyone or anything the criteria being it should be the truth or a well-informed opinion, not an intentional false defamation. It means to be free to criticize religion, free to wear your choice of clothes, free to go any place you want, free to watch any kind of movie, free to read any book you want, free to do anything without any person or government or an organization ordering you to stop it. Freedom is to not to be photographed in malls with you do your shopping. That’s the kind of freedom I am talking about. Unless you are hurting or curbing someone else’s rights, you should not be stopped by anyone or any entity.

Without freedom, life will be out of our lives. Freedom can be divided mainly into three categories. Political freedom, social freedom and economical freedom. Political freedom though very difficult to attain is still easier to realize as its something you and I can see directly. The other two, social and economic are the ones which are very difficult to attain. We got political freedom from British Raj 60 years ago but we are still lagging in the social front a lot as here there’s no clear cut entity from which we have to win it. We ourselves are the problem as well as the solution. Our reluctance to accept others freedom is what curbs our freedom as well. When we demand reservations based on castes, when we want quotas, when we discriminate based on religion, when we get married after matching religion, caste, and the gotras we are never realizing social freedom.  One essential tenet of freedom is equality. In a way, freedom and equality can be one and the same. Equality meaning all humans are treated equal with no regard to their colour, religion, race, sex, caste or any god damn criteria that is used to divide people. Needless to say, this kind of equality is still not realized. Without such equality, the democracy is not realized. Please understand that democracy does not simply mean having a right to cast votes. It means freedom and equality to each one of the citizens. Freedom and equality as described above.

Lastly, coming to economic freedom, we can try to understand it as a freedom where the citizenry earn as much so as to not become economic slaves. It can mean to have at least that much of finances to be free able to enjoy and grant the other two freedoms, ie. The political and the social. Its not a rule but a well observed phenomenon that financially sound people are able to demand more for themselves. Thus in a way, economic freedom becomes a facilitator of the realization of political and social freedom. You may always seem to notice that those places which are inhabited by relatively good earning group have considerable fewer rates of corruption and crime. All corruption and crimes are mostly the battle for resources i.e. the battle for money i.e. the competition for prosperity. So, when people are financially well off, the other freedoms are very soon attained.

Freedom is the very platform on which every other aspect of a democracy stands and therefore, it’s the single most aspect of society which must be protected at all costs.

Road to Destruction-Earth

As they say that the road of success is always under construction, the same cannot be said for the road of destruction. We humans, even with all our knowledge of the implications of our deeds, have almost completed the paving of the road to our self destruction. And we have done a damn good job at it. Nature shall remember that the race that was its finest creation, the race which was way beyond in intelligence than any other, went on to destroy not only itself but also other life forms too.

We humans, the elites of all life forms are continuously polluting our environment. Little do we know that how delicate the balance is of life and the nature? This balance can be compared to the balance that a house of cards possesses. A little of push and the cards fall. Similar is the condition of life on earth. Though we seem to be completely oblivious to this fact and continue in our destructive habits unabated. Life on earth started after an enormous number of coincidences which is very very rare occurrence. And that’s why we haven’t been able to find out life elsewhere. But this very delicate balance between life and nature is being disturbed by the very life form who depends on it. Let me give some idea about this balance and how we are disturbing it.

We know that CO2 is a harmful gas as it is a greenhouse gas. Greenhouse effect means that it is able to trap heat. Now we with our crores of vehicles, millions of factories are continuously producing more and more CO2. The increase in CO2 means the suns heat is trapped and as a result, the average temperature increases. Due to this increase in temperature, many other effects will take place which in turn themselves which result in further increase in temperature. It’s just a chain reaction, a sort of time bomb waiting to go off. We just need to trigger it, and you bet, we are doing it. When it gets completely triggered, an avalanche will come where one event will trigger another and it will trigger another and God knows what all catastrophes will occur.

Lets understand this avalanche and how it will occur.

 1)  Animal Life on earth depends on Oxygen for its survival. Without it, we would finish in 10 minutes. This oxygen is produced mainly by 2 ways, firstly by plants on land and secondly by Phytoplankton in oceans. This Phytoplankton is so important that it produces almost half of total oxygen we have in the atmosphere. Now our continuous dumping of the oceans with chemicals and also increasing the temperature results in the destroying of the Phytoplankton. When they finish so does their ability to produce oxygen. So we will have less of Oxygen. Now, apart from producing Oxygen, Phytoplankton also took in CO2 resulting in a balance. Due to the destruction of Phytoplankton, there will no one to take in this CO2 which will further result in temperature increase. More of CO2 will get dissolved in the oceans and result in acidifying of them. This will mean death of many a marine species which will not be able to adapt to acidic water. Add to that that there will almost half of oxygen for us to breathe. The lakes and rivers will evaporate, trees will die and we will have a desert. Isint that horribly scary???

  2) Now increase in CO2 will result in another event. Frozen Lakes in Siberia spread for millions of sq kms. Now these frozen lakes contain a layer of Permafrost. This Permafrost when melts produce Methane. Methane is highly combustible gas and its greenhouse properties are more than 20 times than of CO2. And when a big part of it melts, it would release billions of tonnes of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, into the atmosphere. What shall happen then, is the temperature rise would shoot up temperature like anything resulting in more release of Methane, less of Oxygen, more of CO2 and we wont be able to live on land.

3) Another effect of increase in temperature will result in the altering of the cycle flow of ocean currents. The warm currents flow near the sea surface while the cold ones flow much below the surface. This ocean current is like a conveyor belt which spreads around the whole of earth from one continent to another. This results in the much needed distribution of heat due to which Life on land and water is possible. A temperature increase and its acidification will result in stopping this movement of current and our oceans will die. Their death will mean less of Oxygen for us, frequent storms of the enormous power, no sea food, acid rains … the list goes on.

Above are the main and prominent effects that will occur. There can be a thousand of local effects which will be felt by people throughout the world. It’s high time that the earthlings recognize the extreme delicate balance they have with nature. All we have in the name of environment saving are some publicity gimmicks. Nothing is changing if we just make some little adjustment here and there and then continue our lifestyle. Our whole efforts lie in just lowering the rate at which we are polluting. We are not in any way going for cleaning the pollution we have created. Something which will really make a difference is complete stop in the pollution process and then after a process to clean the environment. Till that is done, we are just living in fool’s paradise and we shall pay for it. If we continue in our mindless acts on the name of economic prosperity, the after effects will be horrendous.

There’s no meaning in having big buildings, cars, airplanes, trains, malls, computers etc if we couldn’t live to use them…the stupid selfish morons who rule the world seem to think it does?

A painting

Guys…just tried my hand on painting after a long long time….

I dont what the painting means or signifies..its just a fre low of thoughts…If you are able to make any meaning out of it, i am all ears… 🙂

The world will NOT end in 2012

Friends, since quite some time, I have been hearing about a catastrophe to occur in 2012 that some retarded journalists have been spreading on the news channels. The channels have been rerunning this nonsense since quite some time. Not only they mislead the people but this might also spread some sort of panic among people. To clear all the doubt I am providing below a detailed rebuttal to all of their nonsensical claims.

The ones in upright letters are the claims and ones in italics are my replies.

Scientific experts from around the world are genuinely predicting that five years from now, all life on Earth could well finish. Some are saying it’ll be humans that set it off. Others believe that a natural phenomenon will be the cause. And the religious folks are saying it’ll be God himself who presses the stop button…

Ohh…..but not one prominent scientist’s name features in any such claims. And the religious folk have been spreading such propaganda since the time world started. Armageddon and apocalypses has been their very effective tool to mislead people. Is there a limit to retardese??

1. Mayan Calendar
The first mob to predict 2012 as the end of the world were the Mayans, a bloodthirsty race that were good at two things:
Building highly accurate astrological equipment out of stone and
Sacrificing Virgins.
Thousands of years ago they managed to calculate the length of the lunar moon as 329.53020 days, only 34 seconds out. The Mayan calendar predicts that the Earth will end on December 21, 2012. Given that they were pretty close to the mark with the lunar cycle, it’s likely they’ve got the end of the world right as well.

It would be a disgrace if human race with all its Herculean development, starts to even minutely believe in what an ancient tribe predicted. If they were so good, their race shouldn’t have gone extinct. Moreover even if they really measured the distance of moon (which I don’t believe anyhow), its no reason to believe what they predicted. Distance between earth and moon is a fact but 2012 catastrophe is a prediction. There lies the main difference.

2. Sun Storms
Solar experts from around the world monitoring the sun have made a startling discovery: our sun is in a bit of strife. The energy output of the sun is, like most things in nature, cyclic, and it’s supposed to be in the middle of a period of relative stability. However, recent solar storms have been bombarding the Earth with so much radiation energy, it’s been knocking out power grids and destroying satellites. This activity is predicted to get worse, and calculations suggest it’ll reach its deadly peak sometime in 2012.

Solar storms have been occurring since the start of life on earth. They are a constant process. Its not something new and will occur in 2012 only. And solar storms indeed might be a problem but the problem will not be as to devastate the whole earth. Sometime back, solar storms let out particles which did affect our cables etc but to say that it will wipe out us is like saying that an insect will come up and eat up all the human beings. We have our magnetic core inside the earth which acts as a shield against many a particles and radiations emitted from the sun.

3. The Atom Smasher
Scientists in Europe have been building the world’s largest particle accelerator. Basically its a 27km tunnel designed to smash atoms together to find out what makes the Universe tick. However, the mega-gadget has caused serious concern, with some scientists suggesting that it’s properly even a bad idea to turn it on in the first place. They’re predicting all manner of deadly results, including mini black holes. So when this machine is fired up for its first serious experiment in 2012, the world could be crushed into a super-dense blob the size of a basketball.

This has to be the most ridiculous of all the claims. The particle accelerators have been since long time and the smallest of all particles like electrons, protons are thrashed in it.  And a black hole forms of starts with mass more than 4 times sun’s mass. A mini black hole cannot be created.  It’s like saying that we take 1 kg of Helium and Hydrogen; we can make a mini sun. And also, black holes don’t crush anything, they engulf it and completely break it. And noone knows what happens after that. How could anyone say that the earth would become a blob of basketball size. Too much of scientific ignorance.

4. The Bible says…
If having scientists warning us about the end of the world isn’t bad enough, religious folks are getting in on the act aswell. Interpretations of the Christian Bible reveal that the date for Armageddon, the final battle between Good an Evil, has been set down for 2012. The I Ching, also known as the Chinese book of Changes, says the same thing, as do various sections of the Hindu teachings.

Ever since all the religions have evolved, all of them talk about some sort of catastrophe. We have surpassed so many such claims till now in 2008. There is no reason to take anything seriously here. The sole continuation of the dominance of religions depends upon the continued fear of the people of something unknown. Thats how religion strives. Well, thats for religion ..and more of it is not within the purview of the matter being discussed.

5. Super Volcano

Yellowstone National Park in the United States is famous for its thermal springs and Old Faithful geyser. The reason for this is simple – it’s sitting on top of the world’s biggest volcano, and geological experts are beginning to get nervous sweats. The Yellowstone volcano has a pattern of erupting every 650,000 years or so, and we’re many years overdue for an explosion that will fill the atmosphere with ash, blocking the sun and plunging the Earth into a frozen winter that could last up to 15,000 years. The pressure under the Yellowstone is building steadily, and geologists have set 2012 as a likely date for the big bang.

Lets take mount Everest as our super volcano since no volcano can be bigger than it. The total volume of Mt. Everest is 2413 cubic kilometers. Out of this volume lot of it will be comprised of molted magma. Not less than half of it. Now lets assume rest half is ash. So we have around 1206 cubic Kms of ash. Out of that, only some part will be thrown out to the atmosphere. The surface area of earth itself is 510,065,600 sq. Km. Is it imaginable that that much ash will cover whole of earth? No. Remember the calculation is for Mt Everest, this so called super volcano will definitely be lesser that it in volume.

6. The Physicists
This one’s case of bog-simple maths mathematics. Physicists at Berekely Uni  have been crunching the numbers. and they’ve determined that the Earth is well overdue for a major catastrophic event. Even worse, they’re claiming their calculations prove, that we’re all going to die, very soon – while also saying their prediction comes with a certainty of 99 percent- and 2012 just happens to be the best guess as to when it occurs.

I don’t think any physicist deserves to be called one, when he predicts something but will not say the reason for saying such. They are nothing but failed astrologers seeking some desperate attention.

7. Slip-Slop-Slap-BANG!
We all know the Earth is surrounded by a magnetic field that sheilds us from most of the sun’s radiation. What you might not know is that the magnetic poles we call north and south have a nasty habit of swapping places every 750,000 years or so – and right now we’re about 30,000 years overdue. Scientists have noted that the poles are drifting apart roughly 20-30kms each year, much faster than ever before, which points to a pole-shift being right around the corner. While the pole shift is underway, the magnetic field is disrupted and will eventually disappear, sometimes for up to 100 years. The result is enough UV outdoors to crisp your skin in seconds, killing everything it touches.

The shift of poles is something noone knows when it repeats even if it does repeat. And even if it does shift, the earth’s magnetic core will always produce magnetic field which shall act as a shield against the radiations. Fields don’t vanish out of the blue. They are a property of a substance just like water has surface tension wherever it is.
Moreover if the shift has already started, why don’t we have crisp skinned dead bodies everywhere in the streets? A pole shift may damage phones line, satellite comms. and all those processes which gets affected due to the magnetic field but it would happen that all of us just one fine day get out of the house and get fried.

The journalists esp the hindi news channels in their race for high TRPs resort to all sorts of gimmicks. One of them is to induce a fear into the public. Please don’t pay attention to such brainless propaganda. These journalists have absolutely no knowledge of science and the universe. All they know is to pick some info from here and there and show it as breaking news.

Lastly, I would like to say that the world might end in 2012 but in a different way. That is through a nuclear war. If we don’t stop our petty prejudices from ruling our decisions we might end up in a situation where a nuclear war would be indispensable. And then my dear friends, our home, in fact our only home will be destroyed. The beauty of life which blossomed sometime a million years ago as a single cell would be lost. And remember, we haven’t been able to find life anywhere near earth. Just imagine how precious it is. Don’t hate your fellow human, for even millions of light years far from here, there isn’t a life form similar to him.
